Hasidism and the Jewish Labor Bund emerged from the same Eastern European Jewish world, and in many ways from the same impulse: both were movements of ordinary people who challenged the establishment, valued living Jewish culture, and insisted on the dignity of everyday Jews. They simply found different paths there — Hasidism through a personal, mystical, and spiritual devotion expressed in ecstatic dance; The Bund through solidarity, labor organizing, and collective political struggle. This special summer evening, co-presented by Shtetl Berlin and Interkulturelles Zentrum Neukölln with support from Partnerschaft für Demokratie Neukölln, brings both traditions into conversation for a night of movement, music, and memory.
The evening opens at 19:30 with Chaia leading a participatory presentation on her work with a newly digitized archive of Bundist materials at the YIVO Institute in New York — cassette recordings of meetings, commemorations, and gatherings that preserve the voices…
