About the event

On June 13, UFA Fabrik's charming outdoor stage welcomes one of the most celebrated folk ensembles in the world: Muzsikás from Budapest. This is an extremely special opportunity — the legendary group rarely tours anymore and has no other scheduled performances in Germany. Over more than fifty years, Muzsikás have redefined how audiences hear Hungarian traditional music — and in the process, rescued an entire chapter of Jewish musical heritage from oblivion. Their concert at Shtetl Berlin will draw on various points in their remarkable career, including music from their groundbreaking album Máramaros: The Lost Jewish Music of Transylvania.

Founded in 1973 at the heart of Budapest's táncház (dance house) movement, Muzsikás play and improvise in the style of the old Hungarian village bands, in which the solo violin is accompanied by the three-stringed viola and contrabass.
