SHTETL BERLIN 2021 December 2 - 5 - Yiddish Culture Festival
Shtetl Berlin 2021 is the 5th grassroots gathering celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of contemporary Yiddish culture in Berlin. After a year of pandemic-era online events the festival is back in-person December 2 - 5, 2021 at various locations around Berlin. Join us for Yiddish dance, song, language and klezmer music mini-workshops, concerts, cabaret, book launch, dance ball, jam sessions and more!
COVID-19 RULES
To ensure the safety of everyone there is a "2G" requirement for all indoor events. Everyone must either be vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19 and have proof at hand.
In addition, for our specifically Shtetl Berlin events (Shtetl Fest and the Sunday Dec. 5 Jam Session) we will have a "2G+" rule, which requires that everyone arrive also with proof of a recent negative Covid-19 test.
We will also be conducting contact tracing at our events. Please have the Corona-Warn-App on your smartphone when you arrive, if at all possible.

An pre-festival Shtetl Berlin online party for Arkady Gendler’s 100th geburtstog.
The original yiddish rock star, a treasury of yiddish song and language, and a real mentsh, Arkady Gendler was a beloved member of the Yiddish community and an important link between the old and the new worlds in the klezmer revival. The songs he wrote, taught and performed at countless workshops and festivals around the world have become an integral part of the contemporary Yiddish repertoire. This evening we’ll throw an online party in honor of Arkady’s 100th birthday, and remember him with videos (including some rare, previously unreleased footage), photos, recordings and stories told by his close friends and students, as well as by Arkady himself.
